Mandate/Vision
Mandate
The University of Calgary Petroleum and Energy Society (PES) is a non-profit organization run by students with the fundamental purpose of creating an informed, knowledgeable, and connected student workforce in the oil and gas industry. We believe that by equipping students with a solid foundation of knowledge, experience, and networking skills, they will gain a competitive advantage when entering the industry.
Vision
At PES, we recognize the importance of having technically and experientially competent leaders in the energy industry. PES has taken steps to ensure our student members receive professional development opportunities, and have access to resources through industry partnerships that will help them become future industry leaders. We also recognize that Western Canada is home to one of the largest hydrocarbon reserves in the world. Developing these resources in an economic and environmentally sustainable manner presents significant challenges to the future of the industry. Our aim is to prepare our student members to face these challenges by providing opportunities to learn from current industry leaders to generate inspired and passionate energy-minded graduates.
Metrics
To fulfill our mandate, PES has identified four key areas of development on which to focus our efforts. They include:
-
Professional Development
-
Experiential Learning
-
Networking
-
Social Responsibility
We believe that, by focusing our time on these specific areas, our student members will benefit through gaining a competitive edge upon entering the industry. PES is the official Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Calgary Student Chapter, and maintains strong ties with other non-profit organizations including the Alberta Professional Engineers and Geoscientists Association of Alberta (APEGA), the Gas Processing Association of Canada (GPAC), the Young Pipeliners Association of Canada (YPAC), and the Collegiate Energy Association (CEA). We also believe in giving back to the community that has supported our growth. Strong community involvement allows us to offer our members to contribute to causes important to them outside of the industry.
