Traditional oilfield services are commonly classified under Drilling, Evaluation, Completion & Production but when it comes to Fishing, Intervention is the best term to describe Fishing operations. A fishing job may occur during Drilling operations when a drill string gets parted, during an Evaluation operation when a wireline tool gets stuck in open hole, during the completion phase when a packer is prematurely set and requires to be milled and retrieved, or finally, during Production when an ESP pump gets stuck in its own cable. These examples explain why fishing is an Intervention service which requires an extensive experience to intervene whenever required, where each & every fishing job is different story than the other. Hesham Helmy is a Drilling & Well Intervention professional who progressed through his career with major oilfield service companies. He took over several assignments including Field Engineer, Regional Applications Engineer, and most recently Group Technical Manager, where he worked at three continents (Middle-East, Africa, Asia-Pac, & North America) at land, offshore & deep-water environments. His areas of expertise are Fishing, Remedial, Re-Entry, Sidetracking, Multilateral development, Plug & Abandonment, Performance Drilling Tools. Hesham holds a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering and published multiple technical papers (SPE).
