PES & CSUR | Advocacy for Canada's Unconventional Oil and Gas
Date: Tuesday, February 12, 2019
Time: 5-6pm
Location: ENA 103
Speaker: Brad Hayes
Brad is President of Petrel Robertson Consulting Ltd., a consulting firm engaged by industry, government agencies, and legal and financial organizations, to address conventional and unconventional hydrocarbon exploration and development. Under Brad’s direction, PRCL has developed particular expertise in the geology of unconventional hydrocarbons. PRCL has completed several regional assessments of tight gas and shale gas prospectivity in western and northern Canada, including the Horn River Basin, Montney, and Duvernay plays, and regionally in Yukon and Northwest Territories. Brad has also directed a number of studies addressing water resources for the unconventional oil and gas industry, in both deep saline and shallow non-saline aquifers. Brad holds a Ph.D. in Geology from the University of Alberta, and a B.Sc. from the University of Toronto. He gained 15 years of industry experience with various companies including Shell and Canadian Hunter, before joining PRCL in 1996. Brad is a Professional Geologist registered in Alberta and B.C. and currently serves on APEGA Council. He is also an active member of the CSPG (serving as its President in 2001), AAPG, and GAC, and was elected as a Fellow of Geoscientists Canada in 2014. A note from our speaker: "I hope would promote some good dialogue with students and faculty. It is an examination of advocacy, particularly around unconventional oil and gas / hydraulic fracturing, but has some philosophical points to make as well. Very important stuff for scientists and engineers on the cusp of new careers."
