Alberta’s water resources are vital to our environment, our economy and our people. The increasing demand for water across the province has raised issues of water supply, quality and allocation. Innovative policy and collaborative processes are providing new ways of managing these valuable and limited resources.
Highlights of the presentation:
Increasing population requires more food, which places an increasing demand on already constrained water resources around the globe.
Canada, and more specifically Alberta, will be called upon to produce more food over the next several decades.
Industry competes for water for food, people, energy and the environment: the ‘Nexus”.
Collaborative processes with water practitioners, managers, users and resource owners allow decisions to be made in the best interests of the watershed.
The Government of Alberta is advancing the policy and regulatory frameworks to allow the optimal use of the water resources.
